What We Believe
If you’re not sure what you believe yet, you’re welcome to learn about God and His love for you here at FCC. Even if you disagree with our beliefs, you are welcome to explore the life-changing faith we have in Christ. We will love you and will do our best to help you, no matter who you are. If you’re already a follower of Jesus and you’re looking for a good church home, you may want to know where we stand. Here’s what we believe.
At FCC, we are unshakable in our belief that God has revealed unchanging Truth in His Word, the Bible, and in the person of Jesus Christ. Truth is not defined by our feelings or opinions, but by Scripture. When our culture contradicts God’s Word, we’ll side with His Word, every time. Based on God’s Word, these are our core beliefs, our non-negotiable:
The Bible
is “God-breathed,” and is fully trustworthy as the final authority for faith and conduct (1 Corinthians 2:10-13; Galatians 1:11-12; 2 Timothy 3:16).
One God
who exists eternally in three persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit (Mark 1:10-11;
John 1:1-3, 10:30, 16:7-11).
Jesus Christ
was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary and is truly God and truly human
(Matthew 1:18; Luke 1:31-35; John 1:1, 14; 8:58; Philippians 2:6-8; Colossians 1:15-19). Lived a sinless life and died on the cross to atone for our sins, in order to reconcile us to God. He was raised from the dead, and has gone to prepare a place in heaven for those who believe in Him. Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and there is no other way to the Father but through Him. (John 14:1-6; Romans 4:25, 5:8-11; Ephesians 2:13-22; Hebrews 4:15).
Holy Spirit
is a person, being coequal with the Father and the Son. He convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgment. The Spirit guides us and gives us power to live a life which brings glory to God (John 16:7-11; Acts 1:8;
2 Peter 1:3).
Man
was created in the image of God. All have sinned, bringing the consequences of physical death, and spiritual death, which is separation from God (Genesis 1:26, 2:17; Romans 3:23, 6:23).
Born Again:
In order to have eternal life with God we must be born again (also known as regeneration).
This happens through the work of the Holy Spirit. We receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, becoming a “new creation,” upon our trust in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. As we conform to His will, and cooperate with His work, He transforms us, producing in us a more Christ-like character (John 1:12-13; John 3:3, 5-8; John 16:5-15; Romans 8:1-16; Romans 12:1-2; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Galatians 5:22-23; 1 Peter 1:23).
Second Coming
Christ will return with glory, and will judge the living and the dead. Those believing in Him will receive eternal life, while unbelievers will receive eternal punishment (Matthew 25:31-46; John 3:16-21).
The Church
Body of Christ, which is the church, has been given the task of fulfilling the Great Commission of making disciples in the spirit of the Great Commandment of love (Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 12:30-31).
Our History
Ferndale Community Church is an independent church that was originally founded March 17, 1876 as the First Congregational Church of Ferndale. The church was built in the style of New England Congregational churches and was dedicated July 24, 1881.
Over these many generations, we have become a united body of believers from different backgrounds with one goal, to serve our community with the love of Jesus by "healing hearts and changing lives." As a vibrant Body of Christ, we equip, nurture and encourage our people to exercise their gifts in their service to God and others.
